The enigmatic Nazca Lines and Ballestas Island

Ica is situated in southern Peru, famous for its desert landscape. The region Is very well known for the vineyards producing Pisco and wine.

It was inhabited by the civilizations of Chincha, Nazca and Paracas cultures. Huacachina is the oasis where you can do sand boarding and dune buggy or visit the vineyards and taste Pisco and wine.

Paracas

is located in the southern coast of Peru and about an hour and thirty minutes from Ica and 15 minutes from Pisco. It is a small town with beaches, Ballestas Islands, home to sea lions, wildlife etc., and the Paracas National Reserve within the boundaries of the desert peninsula. The marine reserve extends south along the coast and was designated UNESCO World Heritage.

The Paracas culture, an Andean Society, thrived in this region around 600-150 B.C.E. and is one of the earliest known complex societies in South America. They had substantial knowledge of irrigation and water management and known for its textile art and mummies. The Paracas people performed trephination, skull mutilation and modification.

Nazca

Nazca is located on the southern coast of Peru and is a system of valleys. It was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1994.

The Nazca civilization flourished between 200BC and 600CE and are famous for the geoglyphs and lines etched across deserts and hills, drawings of animals, plants, birds, fish and humans. The lines have survived because this area is one of the driest and most windless regions on earth. These mysterious lines are only fully viewable from the air. No one knows the purpose of the lines and the date they were designed which could have been before the Nazca civilization. There are speculations that they could have been created by Aliens and also considered landing sites for aliens.
